Line Editing
In my line editing service, I read your manuscript line by line, assess it, and return it to you with tracked changes. The tracked changes are suggested revisions that, you, as the author, always have the final say on, and can accept or reject with a single click. It will ensure:
- Your voice
- The revisions will not change your intent, writing style, voice, or any part of you as an author—they are only recommendations to strengthen your unique, irreplaceable voice.
- Clear meaning
- Smooth flow
- Word flow (how it sounds)
- Thought flow (how it feels)
- May include suggested added paragraphs, or in-text comments suggesting further writing
- Pithy, crisp writing
- Removing “telling” sentences when the reader has been shown more effectively
- Removing unnecessary “fluff” words
- Tightening vocabulary—e.g., “ran quickly” will become “sprinted”
- Show, don’t tell
- Providing examples of possible “showing” sentences to replace “telling” sentences
- Dialogue
- Revising to sound natural
- Eliminating explanatory or expository dialogue
- Worldbuilding without infodumping
- Trimming blocks of worldbuilding to suit the flow and forward motion of the story
