I’ll offer line-by-line, word-by-word, suggestions on

  • Clarifying possible confusion
  • Rearranging for smoother flow and adding transitions (even full sentence or paragraph transitions)
    • Word flow (how it sounds)
    • Thought flow (how it feels)
  • Trimming redundancy
    • Removing telling sentences that are already shown
    • Removing unnecessary “fluff” words
    • Tightening vocabulary—e.g., “ran quickly” will become “sprinted”
  •  Aiding “show, don’t tell”
    • Adding suggested and/or example showing sentences to replace telling sentences
  • Dialogue
    • Revising to sound more natural
    • Eliminating explanatory or expository dialogue
